Friday Photo Shootout - My Favourite Place to Walk

You know where that is, don't you? It's on the Parkway Walkway. It must be my favourite, because I just keep going back there, although there is no shortage of places to walk in and near Nanaimo. This post is a nostalgic look back at this season's scenery.

First of all, I love the seasonal display of flowers on the walkway - and the fact that I don't have to look after them. Like Topsy, they just grow.

I took this first photo on May 18 of this year.

By June 3, the scenery had changed. It was brilliant.

And by August 4, the landscape had begun to dry out.

Nonetheless, the pathway still had its attractions, both visual

and culinary.

I know that the time is coming when the walkway will be wet and chilly and perhaps even icy (though I sincerely hope to be walking somewhere else, if and when that happens). But I also know that when Spring comes around again, the beauty of the walkway will be there to enjoy again, and I'm very glad of that.

Thanks to Cindy for this week's assignment. For more Friday Photo Shootout posts, just click on the big camera on my sidebar.

Those June 3 flowers are resplendent--but it's hard to beat blackberries!

You missed TT but managed to bring the wild into your post anyway. I remember buttercups from my childhood. We don't have them here and blackberries are a noxioius weed so to buy them commercially costs a fortune. Mmmm . . .blackberry and apple pie!

this was a great topic - for some reason the blogs are a combination of town and personal that's very nice. your path sounds great.

We have blackberries in our backyard. YUM.

what a beautiful place to walk - enjoyed it!

John, there are still a few edible blackberries on the bushes - I ate some on yesterday's walk. Cool.

Baino - no, I didn't miss TT. It's two posts back, I think. I asked Blogger to delay publication, and it didn't. Blackberries are competing with broom for Chief Invader of the Island, and I'm cheering for the blackberries. They're the big Himalayan type, and they taste great.

GingerV, Carrie, Denise, thank you. It is a lovely walk.

That truly is a beautiful place to walk. Great job photographing the flowers.

I don't recognise the little white flowers or the deep yellow - unless they really are buttercups artfully shot - but they're lovely. However, I envy you most for the blackberries. I used to pick them in the hedgerows around Oxford and make pie, and one day an elderly man helped me pick a few and told me I should add apples to the blackberries as that was how his wife did it when she was the alive and it was the best pie he'd ever eaten. Best pie is a tough category but apple blackberry is right near the top. Thanks for the tour.

We have blackberries on our trail as well - ours are late this year but plentiful! Would love to walk your trail, sounds similar to ours with the scotch broom. Nasty stuff!

mmmm - Blackberries, YUM!!!!

Thank you, Sandy, Doreen, Sara Lulu, and J9. I'm considering having my camera implanted in my hand, to save the trouble of taking it out of its case and putting it back.

Mairi, the white flowers in the first photo are dogwood blossoms. I think the other white flowers are Queen Anne's Lace. The orange ones are California poppies. And let me tell you, our blackberries are about five times the size of any I've seen in England (though I did my berry hunting on the Isle of Wight, so maybe they were stunted because of the dryness.

Those berries look more than good enough to eat! And the flowers were beautiful.

Sandra, I *LOVE* that second photo! It's just gorgeous. Would love to walk with you on your favorite walk.

Barry, the berries were great. I'm going to miss them when they finally disappear. I just hope there will be some left tomorrow, when I go out again.

Angel May, you would love the Parkway walkway. Come on up, girl! Better still, I'll take you to Pacific Rim National Park (where the photo on my header was taken) and give you a real walk.
