Friday Photo Shootout - all about a building

Well, several buildings. When I visited my sister Gracie in Casper, Wyoming this summer, we visited a few of the local places of interest. The first was Fort Caspar (or Fort Casper, depending on who's writing). The 19th century fort has been preserved as a museum. The display consists of log buildings - barracks, mostly -

and the stables,

as well as a group of tepees

and a section of bridge.

Oh - and there was a covered wagon.

Altogether, the folks who look after the museum have made Fort Caspar look like rather a cozy place, but I suspect that the men who lived there didn't find it so. I meant to post these photos way back in July, when the visit was fresh in my mind, but time flew, and I missed my cue, so I'm glad that this subject came up at Friday Photo Shootout. This week's topic was assigned by the Town Blogger Team. You will find more photo shoots right here.

I think the word "shootout" is very appropriate under the circumstances.

As a history buff, I really enjoyed this post.

Why do they always clean up historical buildings and make them feel as if no human had ever actually lived in the place?

At least one muddy boot left in the middle of the floor would have worked wonders!

Fabulous! Could have all been in an old cowboys and indians movie. Loved them all.

Great pictures.

LOL, Poetikat. They didn't have any while I was there, thank goodness.

Barry, I'm glad you like it. I agree about the boot, but on the other hand, I suspect that leaving your boots lying around would have been frowned upon, even in a frontier army. Maybe not, though.

Sarah Lulu, Doreen, Mary, thank you x3.

Old forts and old teepees are so reminiscent of the old west. The pictures are so vivid especially the conestoga wagon. Thank you for the historical jaunt today.

Maybe I was born in the wrong era, but I love log cabins, forts and simple decor. You made my day. Thanks for posting this great subject.

Great tour. I can smell the inside of the the big building - woodsy but no doubt slightly funky, too. What a cool place.

Oh, what a rustic cabin....and I'm seeing Barry's comment - so true! yes, a muddy boot print - a coat on the rack, a shirt across a chair!

Ha I came over with the same though as Poetikat! I cannot imagine how they even slept, and sometimes with a shooting instrument close at hand!

Great post!

Looks like a neat place to visit. I've always wanted to sleep in a teepee...my husband, on the other hand, does not want to!
