The Eejit Challenge
Oh, no. It's Monday already. Didn't we just have Monday? I forgot all about Totalfeckineejit's Monday poetry challenge until I opened Dominic Rivron's blog. The rule, you will recall, is that you write for five minutes. Period. No re-writes. Okay. Here goes:
An hour up the road,
Left my husband on the beach.
Shopped the day away.
I know. It's lame - but it's topical. That's what I did today (see the post below). And it's haiku. I stuck to a form.

Great little Haiku, Sandra, well done and thanks so much for joining in, I'm delighted how well the extravaganza went.Join in the next one??
Eejit - of course. If I can remember. I am, as you put it, hard of remembering.
Lame? Never. I too like to stick to 5-7-5 with haiku, there's a limitation there to work against, although I enjoy and respect ones that don't (like Poet in Residence's).
across the ridge
she knew there lay another
it wasn't so very far
but worlds away
she picked at her toes
because no one was there to see her
went to bed and dreamed of
a bear rearing up claws slashing
at the air, then across her face
she woke, and the blood she'd felt
wasn't blood at all
she touched her cheek
wet
tomorrow, she thought, tomorrow I cross the ridge
I am not afraid, she thought,
tomorrow, I find another
Dominic - Thank you for reminding me yesterday. My short little span of attention is nearly non-existent lately.
I gather there are various schools of thought wrt haiku. Some people insist on the 5-7-5 form; others say that the difference between Japanese and English syntax renders the 5-7-5 form meaningless. I'm pretty anal, so I do as I'm told. ;>)
Kathryn, you are wondrous; do you know that?
