The Eejit Challenge

Oh, no. It's Monday already. Didn't we just have Monday? I forgot all about Totalfeckineejit's Monday poetry challenge until I opened Dominic Rivron's blog. The rule, you will recall, is that you write for five minutes. Period. No re-writes. Okay. Here goes:

An hour up the road,
Left my husband on the beach.
Shopped the day away.

I know. It's lame - but it's topical. That's what I did today (see the post below). And it's haiku. I stuck to a form.

Dominic Rivron said...: Lame? Never. I too like to stick to 5-7-5 with haiku, there's a limitation there to work against, although I enjoy and respect ones that don't (like Poet in Residence's).; 1:04 PM

Sandra Leigh said...: Dominic - Thank you for reminding me yesterday. My short little span of attention is nearly non-existent lately.

I gather there are various schools of thought wrt haiku. Some people insist on the 5-7-5 form; others say that the difference between Japanese and English syntax renders the 5-7-5 form meaningless. I'm pretty anal, so I do as I'm told. ;>)
